In response to the report on the investigation into the Soham murders, the Home Secretary has pledged to implement a national system to better handle sensitive intelligence.
The Home Office has pledged to improve the way police handle sensitive intelligence by implementing a national intelligence system and enforcing a nationwide code of practice for police information handling.

The beleaguered chief constable of Humberside last night insisted he would continue to fight to keep his job even though he will be suspended from his post tomorrow.
David Westwood, who was criticised over his force's failure to keep tabs on the Soham killer Ian Huntley, said he had received messages of support and wanted to stay because it was his "duty" to drive through reforms.

A shiny £30m glass building complete with palm trees and escalators, it was meant to be a vast improvement on Manchester's grotty old magistrates court. Only a month after opening in the new Spinningfields development in the heart of the city, the court has been beset with difficulties.
And what are called teething problems descended into ignominy on Friday morning when a 15cm (6in) kitchen knife was found taped to the dock in Court 17, used for remand prisoners. It is not clear who brought in the knife - but its presence was disturbing.

Northern Ireland Office minister John Spellar has welcomed a new report into criminal justice in Ulster.
The first annual report of Criminal Justice System Northern Ireland (CJSNI) was published on Tuesday and found that increased cooperation between agencies had borne fruit.
